Happy Summer Solstice!
Could today actually be the longest day of the year? Despite the early climax, the days will seem very long for the next couple months...

TUES 6/21
7pm to 8:30pm
"Building a Buzz: Using Social Media as a Marketing Tool"
at Brookline High School, 115 Greenough St, Brookline (Brookline Hills)
$6
If you've got a commercial activity, you may want to spend a few bucks for tips to leverage the various social websites out there.
Or you could do some research via Google (or whatever), but time is money...
TUES 6/21
7:30pm
"Major Ladies of Boston": CD Release Party
at Church, 69 Kilmarnock St, Boston (Fenway)
$10 / 18+
Feat: Nancia, Bay Holla, Ms Aquarius, Gee, Animocity, Shea Rose, Dutch ReBelle, Boo Gorjus, Su-kin, Ms Sheek, Shellee Shae, Ms. Gucci, Niki Fontaine, Iyadonna, Lady Repo, Carmen, Letia Larok, Nyrie, K'Loni Sky, Lisette Love, Sarita, 40 B.A.R.R.S, Pretty Poison, Kaira, Ms Purp, Kiki Breevlife
With about 25 different female MC's hitting the stage in one night, there is no doubt the major ladies of Boston are on stage. There's not many left out.
The core of the MLB consists of Bay Holla, Ms Aquarius, Gee, Animocity, and Ms Sheek who first got together a few years ago. Tonight they celebrate a CD release with many of their sisters-in-arms. I listened to snippets of many listed above, and don't underestimate this crew.
From previous listens, Shea Rose and Letia Larok are definite standouts. In fact I think of Shea Rose as a guitar-slinging soul-rock monster, so there will be some variety.

9pm
Solstice Circus Anniversary Show
at Plough & Stars, 912 Mass Ave, Cambridge (Central Sq)
$10ish / 21+
Yeah, these folks have performed acrobatic feats in that tiny corner of the Plough on previous season changes. They actually started last summer solstice.
There is usually some music acts as well, but I didn't find a lineup.
TUES 6/21
9pm
You Can Be A Wesley, Mean Creek, earthquake party!, Felix and Volcano
at O'Brien's, 3 Harvard St, Allston
$8 / 18+
I had to double-check that this show was really at O'Briens. There's a lot of excellent indie-rock in one club tonight.
Since it happened last week, let's bring up that Mean Creek cleaned up at the Phoenix Music Poll by winning "Best Act", "Best Male Vocal", and "Song Of The Year".
You'd think that would be enough, but You Can Be A Wesley and earthquake party also add some fuzzy/noisy goodness to the experience. Just heard Felix and Volcano, and am digging it.
TUES 6/21
10pm to 1am
Le Prestige
at Atwoods Tavern, 877 Cambridge St, Cambridge (near Inman & Kendall Sq)
FREE
I was wondering why this wasn't part of Somerville's Jazz & Blues Fest, and then I realized Atwoods is in Cambridge. This is the kind of loungey, bopping modern jazz for hanging out and drinking from the extensive draft beer selection.
