The Sun is shining!
To recap, there are actually seven cheap outdoor activities (details below) tonight -- besides the usual fun of frisbee, picnic, skinnydipping, etc...
I originally forgot to mention:
1) The Tall Ships are here through Sunday
2) Somerville's fireworks (postponed from THUR 7/2).
--------------------------------------------------------------
THUR 7/9 thru SUN 7/12
5pm to 10pm
Sail Boston: Public Tall Ship Boardings
at Charlestown Navy Yard, Fish Pier, World Trade Center
FREE
There was much more hoopla for the Volvo Ocean Race, but the vessels competing in the Tall Ships Atlantic Challenge are really beautiful to behold.
Some of the ships are making themselves open to the public for viewing. Other events are also happening in Downtown Crossing and Harborlights in the next couple days.
THUR 7/9
6pm to 9pm
Boston Localvores Cheese Tasting
at Growing Center, 22 Vinal Ave, Somerville (near Union Sq)
$3 suggested donation
THUR 7/9
6:30pm to 7:30pm
Outdoor Karaoke Party
at Museum of Fine Arts, 465 Huntington Ave, Boston (The Fens)
FREE
THUR 7/9 thru THUR 8/6
6:45pm
"The Complete Works Of William Shakespeare (abridged)"
at Christian Herter Park, 1175A Soldiers Field Road, Brighton (near Charles River, across from WBZ)
FREE
THUR 7/9
7pm
Orquesta Bacharengue
at Mozart Park, 10 Mozart St, Jamaica Plain (Hyde Sq, off Centre St)
FREE
When I mentioned this to a co-worker from Dominican Republic, they were intrigued by the concept of mixing bachata with merengue...
THUR 7/9 thru SAT 7/25
7:30pm
"The Wedding on the Eiffel Tower" (and other absurdities of Love)
at Mary O’Malley Park, Commandant’s Way, Chelsea (Waterfront)
FREE
THUR 7/9
9pm
Fireworks
at Trum Field, about 541 Broadway, Somerville (Magoun Sq)
FREE
"Entertainment" begins at 6pm.
Broadway will be closed to traffic from Ball Square to Magoun Square from 5pm to midnight. So it's best to take T/bus and/or walk.
Update:
THUR 7/9 (and THUR 7/23 & THUR 8/6)
5pm to 8pm
Neighborhood Nights: "Summer Palace"
at Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, 280 The Fenway, Boston (The Fens)
FREE
Holy crap! This makes *8* cheap, outdoor events on my list!
The first of 3 free nights with music and activities.
Tonight, there is: poetry, jazzy jewelry-making (out of colorful pipe cleaners, wire, and beads), decorate a mini-treasure chest, and Patrice Williamson Group.
