"Mayor Menino's Bike Week Festival"
from Various Points in the Area to City Hall Plaza, Boston
FREE
Similar to "Bike Friday" that happened in August, Bay State Bike Week is finishing strong with a escorted bike ride into Boston. A gift bag, water bottle and breakfast (from Boloco) should be awaiting your arrival at City Hall Plaza.
Routes are starting at 7am from spots in Newton, Brookline, Watertown, Lexington, Arlington, Somerville, Cambridge, Belmont, Dorchester, West Roxbury, Roslindale, Brighton, Allston, Jamaica Plain -- with a few designated stops to pick up more riders.
Check the map (scroll down) to find the closest starting point to you.
(You could bike in on your own and probably still get breakfast and goodies...)
I keep up with local news, and no one has died in one of these "municipal convoy rides". They'd still like you to register for Bike Week (start with the waiver) to help Bike Week organizers know how successful they've been.
Here's what I'm wondering about: I guess everyone is on their own to get home on Friday night???
Now that you've biked in, you should probably go back the same way. Is that the best way?
I tried to find someone's account of their post bike-in experience, but no luck. Did anyone do this last year? What was your ride home like? I'd love to know!

I did this last year, and it was a lot of fun and totally worth it! I biked home the same route back. I think there was a lot of rush hour traffic, but I've biked around the city in traffic before so it was no sweat. I think the point of the escorted ride is to get used to the idea so you can bike on your own more easily.
That's cool. I think people should do it.
It's funny that they drop you off in the morning, and thought they leave to fend for yourself...
