BlastFest
at YMCA Theater, 820 Mass Ave, Cambridge (Central Sq)
$5 - $10 (sliding scale) / All Ages
Are you feeling like Spring might actually be here by the equinox? A few days of good weather aren't a credible indicator, but the next musical season starts on Friday. After a successful show last March, the Whitehaus gang brings the spirit of their JP house parties to the Cambridge Y again.
On the few occasions that I notice a house show, I don't list it because it's probably going to be crowded enough. Whitehaus seems to be notorious for having impressive artists on a regular basis -- it's obviously blossomed into a community of musical and spoken-word performers that releases albums as well as hosting shows.
I've listened to most of the performers listed below, and it's going to be a mind-blowing amount of folk, rock, poetry, experimental music, and some stuff that falls in between all of that. With 19 artists playing, you won't find a more "blast" for your entertainment buck. The show is going to last about 6 hours!
Scheduled performers: Anna Rochinski, April Ranger, Avi Jacob, Baixa, Brian S. Ellis, Casey Rocheteau, Debbie and the Bullets, Gracious Calamity, The Great Valley, Gregory J. Moon, Lindsay Clark, Manners, Many Mansions, Morgan Shaker, The Needy Visions, Peace Loving, The Points North, Shira Erlichman, The Woodrow Wilsons
I saw some photos from last year, and you get the idea that's it's way more than people taking turns up on stage.
My experience with "sliding scale" shows is that you should pay $10, but pay what you can if you really can't afford full price. I'm giving away a pair of free tickets to the first person (thanks for playing, folks) that comments with some way to contact them -- whether you sign in with an ID or type in some contact info.
