TUES 1/13: Body Party, Cash Tribute, Comedy

Johnny Cash Tribute at Milky Way Lounge
It's a good Tuesday, especially since this could be last day above 30F for a long time...

You won't believe this, but I saw someone reading the Globe on the Red Line this morning! Weird, but I'm glad some people are still paying for the news.

Is anyone wondering if I'm going to get into the party tonight? I RSVP'ed again...

TUES 1/13

7pm
"Boston's Best Body Party"
at Life in Synergy Studios, 867 Boylston St, Boston (Back Bay)
FREE w/ RSVP

There's not much I can say about this thing. Many of the 'best body' winners will probably be there -- why do they work out if they don't want to be to be appreciated? Whatever your deal is, Stuff(at)Night chooses many men and women. The inside photo of coverwoman (and artist) Ann Palica is definitely the highlight of the current issue.

Even though free drinks don’t make a healthy body, everyone can take a night off here and there... Have a couple no matter how long it's been since you've worked out...

Remember everyone who wants to go to a Stuff(at)Night party needs to RSVP, and there's a chance you can still get on the list. I don't know how long the line will be, but it doesn't hurt to try.

TUES 1/13

9:30pm
"Cash at Folsom": Tribute Night!
w/ DJ Brother Cleve, Slim Jim & the Mad Cows, Peter Parcek, Brendan Hogan
at Milky Way Lounge, 403 Centre St, Jamaica Plain
$5 / 21+

The famous/infamous Johnny Cash concert at Folsom Prison went down on January 13, 1968. No one really needs a special date to pay tribute to the Man in Black, but it doesn't hurt...

Slim Jim & the Mad Cows usually do awesome country-fried versions of heavy metal/hard-rock classics, but you know there's going to be some Cash songs tonight. Giving tribute from other perspectives are Brendan Hogan as a singer-songwriter guy and Peter Parcek is a guitar-slinger guy (and a good one). Brother Cleve will no doubt spin the ass-kickingest rebel country sounds all night.

I also read that some of the Folsom concert footage will be shown at some point, which should be cool.

TUES 1/13

9:30pm
The Rob Crean Show
w/ Chris Coxen, Mike Dorval, Tim Vargulish, MC Mr. Napkins, Coralcola
at O'Brien's, 3 Harvard St, Allston
$8 / 21+

It's a comedy show in the format of variety/talk show. Imagine a late-night talk show with various sketches, interviews, and performances, and a "humorous take on the news" segment. Now imagine it being funny...

Chris Coxen is quite enjoyably peculiar with a cast of characters he portrays. One of the funniest guys I've heard in a while is MC Mr. Napkins; he does these hilarious raps far off the radar of other hip-hoppers. There won't be a news segment tonight, but someone will offer a "sports" report. Members of the Anderson Comedy troupe will probably perform as well. Instead of the usual rock band, Coralcola is an electronica act.

Check it out before Rob & friends change their collective, humorous mind!
