Pulitzer Prize-winning author and longtime North Shore resident, John Updike died this morning after suffering from lung cancer.
I read the first "Rabbit" novel and was more shaken by unabashedly honest story of an imperfect American life than many other books. Can't really think of his short stories that jump out, but I imagine I would've bawled my eyes out if I read his Teddy Ballgame essay when it was published in the New Yorker.
I doubt Mr. Updike or any of his loved ones read this blog, but I send my condolences.
