Off-Topic: Hey, Johnny Pesky!

I wanted to take a moment to congratulate my close friend, Johnny Pesky, as the Red Sox are going to retire his number on Friday.

Actually, we're not close friends -- but I met him at the annual old-time baseball game in Cambridge last year. He's usually the manager of one team. Everyone was pestering him for an autograph, but I reluctantly walked up and asked for one in my program.

"I'm sorry to bother you, Mr. Pesky, but could I get your autograph?"

I'll never forget what he said to me.

"Sure, but it won't buy you a cup of coffee..."

How cool is that!? It's the answer you'll get from a guy who's been in baseball for 70 years.

Even though they bent the team rules, I believe every Sox fan is happy to see Johnny receive this honor.
