MON 4/28: Rock, Art, Funk, & Film

Underbones Mural, Art Cards tonight
Okay, well... Condo-hunting is more draining for me than I was willing to admit. I'll be fine.

Here's some stuff for today...

--------------------------------------------------------------

MON 4/28

Film School (10:45pm), The Douglas Fir (9:50pm), Broken River Prophet (9pm)
at TT the Bear's Place, 10 Brookline St, Cambridge (Central Sq)
$8

Film School and The Douglas Fir most definitely kick post-wave rock butt. The Douglas Fir especially perform so rarely these days, so it's a great excuse to drag yourself out. If you want to see a good music blog, check out bradley's almanac. He apparently put this show together.

MON 4/28

4pm to 7pm
Art Cards
at Redbones -- Downstairs, 55 Chester St, Somerville (Davis Sq)
$5 per 9 Cards

This is becoming an annual (or something close to it) event. You draw/doodle/create masterpieces on the page of 9 cards that are then laminated and cut. Trade your objets d'art with others or take them home. (They'll be worth tens of some currency when you're gone.)

Rob Logan, who created the murals at 'Underbones', organizes this and will probably be there at each session to get you started and give encouragement. No previous talent necessary!

Proceeds benefit Redbones' Art in Somerville Fund, a partnership of Redbones and the Somerville Arts Council.

If you don't mind getting drunk in front of kids, this will be lots of fun. (Try to watch the language though...) If you buy an Art Card, your entree is 1/2 price.

MON 4/28

7pm to 10pm
Iyeoka & her Black and Blues Funk Tribe
at Clery's Bar, 331 Columbus Ave, Boston (South End)
$1 to $15 Suggested donations (for charity) / 21+

Slam poet Iyeoka is also the singer of her funk/soul band. It's her birthday today, and she's celebrating with a fundraiser for The Amenawon Foundation that works to improve the livelihoods of rural Nigerians.

MON 4/28

Have I mentioned the Independent Film Festival of Boston?
